The first rule: understand what the requirements and expectations are from a manager

Our tip: ask and listen. To be sure about something, don’t draw conclusions, but ask a clear question, get an answer and verify by reflection, that you understood.

And in drumming: how important it is to listen to the beat to know when and how to integrate. How jarring an incorrect integration can be and how simple it is to stop for a moment, verify a rhythm and move forward again, or find the tools to continue with the rhythm and move forward.

The second rule: be prepared and focused

Our tip: prepare an agenda for each meeting, relevant background materials and everything that will help the recipient of the information understand it in order to promote your interests.

And in drumming: it doesn’t matter if it’s notes, or a rhythm that you want to illustrate in any other way. Come up with something that will help others understand the rhythm and direction of your music. The third rule: solving a problem is not (necessarily) emotional

Our tip: if you are faced with a challenge, try to identify if it “activates” you and in what way, so that you can maximize the challenge for self-learning as well. The description of the problem and the proposed solution should be concrete and professional. Leave anger and frustration out of the conversation when discussing crises and conflicts.

And drumming: Is there a mistake? Is anyone off the pace? Maybe even you? Anger and frustration and will not rebuild any rhythm. Listening and starting again, after a comprehensive understanding of the mistake has been made, are the ones that will rebuild the rhythm

The fourth rule: listen to the opinions of others

Our tip: listen to managers, listen to colleagues, listen to employees. In the end the best way to a solution will come.

And in drumming: the ability to listen alongside the ability to create the personal rhythm is a wonderful ability of every manager and drummer and so are the results. We have learned from our clients that our managers’ workshops created a lasting effect on their managers that greatly helped in the personal and professional development of the managers.

The fifth rule: do not hesitate to work together

Our tip: The ability to create and sustain disruptive collaborations is important in today’s world. Managers who have created for themselves the right ways to have such collaborations will achieve far-reaching results for themselves and for the company they work for.
